English 105

English 105 was a great experience to me and it meant so much to have that class. I learned that I may be a good writer, but I also learned that I could be so much better.
I came into the first day of classes thinking oh, this class is going to be way easy, and thought I would breeze through, because I generally was one of the best writers in my high school English classes. Unfortunately, I learned that what we were learning in that class was not going to be as easy as I thought it would be. There were so many new things about writing, and so many different TYPES of writing that I found I actually had a lot to learn. Not only was there rhetoric, but many different types of rhetoric. Or when we had to write our synthesis essays, it was much more difficult than what I was used to. Slowly but surely I started to get a hold on the different writing styles that will help me when I go on to write my reports about student teaching.
So where did this all take me in the end? To become a better writer, and a more intelligent person. The class was not all about writing we did presentations and had discussions. I was able to learn that every argument, no matter what it is about, every argument has two sides. And now because of that outlook I was able to see that I could use that to my own advantage. I can see and understand two ideas about one subject and be able to make a stronger point against anything that my opponent, or just the person I am talking to, says trying to contradict what I said.
I guess that all I am saying is that English 105, was a class that went above and beyond what I expected and easily became one of my favorite classes.

Revised Diagnostic Essay

Forever In Blue
Sister. One word, that means so many things. A sister is a friend, someone you can talk to about anything. A sister is a shoulder to cry on, someone who will take one look at you face and ask, “Whose ass do I have to kick?” A sister is a listener, someone you can call at anytime even if you don’t want to talk, and she will sit and wait.
The Sisterhood of the traveling pants is a popular book that started a series that later became a movie. Many girls can say that they relate to this series, but to me I feel that I do more than most.
In every book, four best friends leave each other for the summer. In the last book they finally move away from each other to college. While reading this book I started to realize that the things that they went through and the events that they experienced, connected to my life almost ironically. I’ve never been so closely described in a book. This is mostly because near the start of high school I was pulled, actually torn away from my best friends in the world and the only life I have ever known. It was so hard on me, but my friends and I have always been there for each other and still are.
In Forever in Blue the girls end up having to fly to Greece just to help one of the girls, Lena. That is something that me or my four girls would do and have done. I was put in the hospital after getting in a car accident, and Jen jumped on a plane and was down here within 5 hours from when she found out and the other three girls were emailing me everyday. That kind of connection and love is overflowed in the book.
There is one part in the book that is unforgettable is a conversation between all four girls, Tibby, Lena, Carmen, and Bee. It was their last day in Greece, and they had lost the pants that they thought was the link to keep them together. Their conversation went:
“’I wish we could stay here forever,’ Carmen said.
‘I do too,’ Bee said.
They didn’t want to leave without the pants, Carmen knew. The pants were here, in a way. Even if they were lost, they were all around them.
‘I think we might have lost the pants a while ago,’ Tibby said, pressing her hands into the sand, her face abstracted. ‘I mean, I think we lost the idea of them. They came to keep us together, and I think we were using them to help us stay apart.’
Carmen thought about this. ‘Right. It was like we had the pants, so we didn’t have to see each other.’
‘I think it’s true,’ Lena said, ‘I hadn’t thought of that.’
‘We counted on them too much,’ Bee said, ‘Or maybe we counted on them in the wrong way.’
‘They taught us to be separate people, but I think we learned a little too well.’ Carmen said.
‘We should have put them away during the school year,’ Tibby suggested.
‘But our lives are different now,’ Lena said, ‘It used to be we were apart for summers. Now we’re apart all the time. Regular life used to be together. Now regular life is apart. It’s impossible to know how to use them.’
Carmen felt like she might cry. ‘Maybe it’s too big a job to keep us together anymore.’”
The last line, “Maybe it’s too big a job to keep us together anymore,” is a line that describes exactly how my friends and I started feeling. But we realized in the end no matter what we will still always be friends. Just like the girls in the book.
This book was not only able to connect to me but it also changed my life. For the past few years since I have lived in Arizona my friends and I have been close but it has still been really hard on not only me but all five of us, because we all miss each other so much. To be able to read this book and notice that the charactors are as close to each other as my friends and I are it made me very interested in reading further. As I did keep reading I realized that although it was only a book I could take tips and take examples from the experiences that the girls went through together.
I actually read this book the summer before I started at Northern Arizona University. The fact that they left each other for college and that was about the time I was reading the book, it was a very crucial point in my life to read something that was so closely related to me. It was also in a way comforting to me to be able to have such a close connection to something even if it’s only a book. It also was very good for me to see how they handled being so far away from their friends and family because it helped me so much.
I would definitely suggest for anyone to read this book in less than a heartbeat. It is a book based more for the female population, but it is still a good book to read for anyone who is interested. It is a real story, and very down to earth. The book has a very unique feel, and is a great book to read if you want a book that could relate to you.
Because this book was so special to me and so well related to me I have read it again. I haven’t read it twice but many times. This book is so good and so well written that I just can’t get over how much I like it. The feeling I get from this book is almost personal. I love this book. The story is such an amazing story that I am willing to read again and again. I do actually plan on reading this book for the sixth time, as soon as I get the chance.
Forever In Blue is an amazing story that is real and entertaining. It is a great book that is perfect to anyone that wants to read it, and anyone who is willing to give it a chance. Give it a chance like a sister gives chances, like a friend
